The Languages of Tanzania Project is committed to the documentation,
promotion and preservation of the local community languages.
The researchers associated with the project conduct fieldwork to determine
the languages spoken in Tanzania; they seek to establish the demographic
strength and geographic spread of each language. They produce
dictionaries and grammatical descriptions of the various languages. They
train young scholars to become linguists who will teach and conduct
research on the languages of Tanzania.
